River Quiz

As I have noted on this blog from time to time, I think Japan has wonderful water, but the contrast can be great.

Here is a small quiz for my avid readers: can you identify the following five locations?

I think the last shot is of Kamo River in Kyoto. The rest, I've never seen.

1st - Shibuya River?
2nd one looks like Arashiyama - Oi river
3rd - no clue
4th - dam on the Arakawa River that was in one of your posts
5th - Kyoto, yes, but Katsura gawa I think.

But then, I could be all WET. :)

Thanks to k & s and pandabonium for taking the time to send in answers! I'll wait a few more days, hoping to get the correct replies to a few of the remaining photos...

Hints: No, No 1 is not Shibuya River, but you are close! And No 2 is near where I worked this fall.

Salvador Dali, Hiroshima and Okinawa

Spanish artist Salvador Dali was deeply terrified by the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki , and his exact, detailed style was very much suited to show the horror of the A-bomb, which America tried to keep a secret by classifying photos and descriptions until the end of the occupation of Japan in 1952. The Bureau of Atomic Tourism has more details if you want to know more about the legacy of nuclear weapons in the U.S. Even today, do people understand the real horror of atomic bombs?
