Götheborg arrives in China


Finally, the 18th Century ship Götheborg has arrived in Guangzhou (Canton) China. 70 crew members have managed to sail the replica all the way from Sweden to China. Great PR for my tiny country.

I wrote about the scandal when the crew was prohibited from discussing political issues such as the lack of democracy in China but now, even Their Royal Highnesses King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden came aboard the ship, so...

Shanghai Daily wrote about the few Chinese crew members, who had a hard time with both languages barriers and the terrible food, but still appear to have enjoyed the experience: Voyage of Discovery (pdf).

As China discovered during the visit of the Swedish sip Gotheborg, Sweden's air force may boast some of the world's most technologically advanced aircraft, the Swedish navy is woefully behind the times.

Hahaha... But that, of course, is classified information!

My aunt used to work as a nurse at the F10 airbase near Angelholm. It was closed in 2002 as Sweden reduces its military budget. A DVD with historical footage can be found here:
