Getting ready for Christmas in Japan


The air is tingling with the jingling bells of Christmas — piped through store loudspeakers of course. In this season to be jolly, Yomiuri Weekly (Dec 18) was curious to learn how imbued Japan's populace has become to the spirit of Christmas. So to find out, it polled 500 adults about their gift-giving plans for this coming Dec 25.

Salvador Dali, Hiroshima and Okinawa

Spanish artist Salvador Dali was deeply terrified by the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki , and his exact, detailed style was very much suited to show the horror of the A-bomb, which America tried to keep a secret by classifying photos and descriptions until the end of the occupation of Japan in 1952.
