Cleaning up Mt. Fuji


I have written before about Ken Noguchi who is on a mission to clean up Mt Fuji. Tonight he was on Fuji TV with a group of volunteers from Fujisan Club who are using GSP equipment to locate garbage, and then go out with trucks to pick it up. For example, they are finding about 200 tons of old tires around Mt Fuji.

As Mt Fuji is a symbol of Japan, it is good to see that more and more Japanese people are finally starting to care about it. The cleanup campaign has also been featured on TBS and Asahi TV. About bloody time, too.

Litter by the roadsides is bad enough, but when I come across a "dump" = tires, TVs, bicycles, washers, etc. - I get angry. Nice to see someone taking the initiative to do something about it.

Tell Momo to tell all the other dogs (and cats too) to make such brigades all over the country and hurry up and clean up the mess that people made! WOF!!

Salvador Dali, Hiroshima and Okinawa

Spanish artist Salvador Dali was deeply terrified by the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki , and his exact, detailed style was very much suited to show the horror of the A-bomb, which America tried to keep a secret by classifying photos and descriptions until the end of the occupation of Japan in 1952.
