Greenbooks, Natural Food Books, And My Book



I like how my book is advertised on this page, with organic farming/permaculture pioneer Masanobu Fukuoka, kind of looking over approvingly at this Swedish upstart. Lots of other great(er) books too about natural food, slow food, apples and an entire book about natto (!).

Ryokushodo is a great little book store with a spirit. It is run by Pono People who are part of Japan's microbiotic movement, and "pono" I think is a Hawaiian word meaning "righteousness" or "inner balance" if I'm not mistaken.

Pono is indeed "righteousness" and the word appears in the State motto which in turn came from a proclamation of King Kamehameha III in 1843: "Ua mau ke ea o ka aina i ka pono", which means, "The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness".

It's not nice to fool mother nature.

Salvador Dali, Hiroshima and Okinawa

Spanish artist Salvador Dali was deeply terrified by the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki , and his exact, detailed style was very much suited to show the horror of the A-bomb, which America tried to keep a secret by classifying photos and descriptions until the end of the occupation of Japan in 1952.
