It will be a day to celebrate when schools get all the funding they need and the military has to hold a bake sale to buy a ship or a bomber.

Thanks for the comment and making the connection (and both education and the military are directly paid for by our taxes).

One thing I remember my father was up in arms about (he was a high school teacher) was when politicians suggested that Swedish teachers should work the same hours, staying at schools, as other workers. 9-5PM in other words.

Well, he had a big reference library at home, as well as his record collection. For him, time was maybe more important than money. The teachers' union in Sweden won that battle, and he - and other teachers - could continue having a small amount of freedom in terms of time...

And did you read the news that Japan ranks very low in terms of state spending among OECD countries for education? I was very surprised!

Salvador Dali, Hiroshima and Okinawa

Spanish artist Salvador Dali was deeply terrified by the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki , and his exact, detailed style was very much suited to show the horror of the A-bomb, which America tried to keep a secret by classifying photos and descriptions until the end of the occupation of Japan in 1952.
